We upgrade to the newest version of software when it has been proven stable for a shared hosting environment.  There is no estimated time of availability at this time for .net 4.0

    Thank you for your question,

    Hi Brenda,

A couple months have passed since I first asked- any news on when support for .net 4.0 will be available?  I have talked to another servergrid customer also waiting for 4.0 support to be able to launch an application.

Any help in pushing this forward would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Robert

The Microsoft .NET Framework is asoftware framework that can be installed on computers running Microsoft Windowsoperating systems. It includes a largelibrary of coded solutions to common programming problems and a virtual machine that manages the execution of programs written specifically for the framework. The .NET framework supports multiple programming languages in a manner that allows language interoperability, whereby each language can utilize code written in other languages; in particular, the .NET library is available to all the programming languages that .NET encompasses. The .NET Framework is a Microsoft offering and is intended to be used by most new applications created for the Windows platform. In order to be able to develop and not just run applications for the Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 you'll need Visual Studio 2010 installed on your computer.

The framework's Base Class Library provides a large range of features including user interfacedata accessdatabase connectivitycryptographyweb application development, numeric algorithms, andnetwork communications. The class library is used by programmers, who combine it with their owncode to produce applications.

Programs written for the .NET Framework execute in a software environment that manages the program's runtime requirements. Also part of the .NET Framework, this runtime environment is known as the Common Language Runtime (CLR). The CLR provides the appearance of an application virtual machine so that programmers need not consider the capabilities of the specific CPU that will execute the program. The CLR also provides other important services such as security, memory management, and exception handling. The class library and the CLR together constitute the .NET Framework.

Version 3.0 of the .NET Framework is included with Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista. Version 3.5 is included with Windows 7, and can also be installed on Windows XP and the Windows Server 2003 family of operating systems.[2] On April 12, 2010, .NET Framework 4 was released alongside Visual Studio 2010.

The .NET Framework family also includes two versions for mobile or embedded device use. A reduced version of the framework, the .NET Compact Framework, is available on Windows CE platforms, including Windows Mobile devices such as smartphones. Additionally, the .NET Micro Framework is targeted at severely resource-constrained devices._______________________________________________________________________

    Hi Brenda,

The .Net 4.0 Framework has been used in production environments since April 2010 and is very stable.  Could you inquire again about loading this framework version on your servers?

    Thanks,

    Robert

Any word on when .Net 4.0 will be placed on the Windows servers?  Not to nag, but it has been out for quite some time now.  Those of us on Visual Studio 2010 are having to leave some nice features behind waiting for the upgrade.

    Thanks,
    Robert
